Established
as a Royal Resort 100 years ago, Hua Hin has become one
of the most popular resorts on the Gulf of Thailand. With
its wide range of luxury hotels, execllent restaurants,
and championship golf courses, and its clear blue water,
Hua Hin has developed a reputation for luxury and a sense
of timelessness. |

|
One
of the first railway lines in Thailand was constructed
from Bangkok to Hua Hin, and the classic Railway Hotel,
now owned by the Sofitel chain, is still the most luxurious
in the town. Just north of Hua Hin in neighbouring Cha-Am,
the Marukathayavan Palace was the summer retreat of King
Rama VI, complete with an open-air theatre where the playwright
King staged his own productions. |

The
Khao Thakiab (chopstick mountains ) at the Southern end
of the beach are dotted with shrines, statues, and other
religious monuments, and offer a panoramic view stretching
back up the bay. |
