KANCHANABURI |
Map of Kanchanaburi |
|
 |
|
Thailand's
fourth largest and westernmost province has long been
a popular destination for both Thai and international
tourists. While the "Bridge on the River Kwai"
and other remnants of Word War II are well known, recently
people have begun to discover that there is much more
to Kanchanaburi than ghosts of the past. |
|
|
Along
the Burmese border stunning mountains are dotted with
the villages of Mon and Karen tribes and some of the most
beautiful waterfalls in the Kingdom. Jungle trekking,
elephant riding, rafting, caving, fishing, or just swinging
in a hammock by the riverside - in Kanchanaburi, all are
possible. |
|
Afer
exploring the Kanchanaburi and Chungkai War Cemeteries,
the JEATH War Museum, and Hellfire Pass, visitors would
do well to explore the caves of Wat Tham Kao Pun, the
nine levels of the Erawan Waterfalls, and the massive
Sai Yok Waterfall. For a closer look at Burma, an overnight
trip to Three Pagoda's Pass (Chedi Sam Ong) shows the
route that travellers and traders have been using for
centuries. |

Jungle
trekking tours with elephant riding, rafting, mountain climbing, and
more are organised by a number of agencies in Kanchanaburi. Boat and
rafting tours on the river are also a popular option. |
